While helping friends move into a retirement home, Richard T. Gillespie discovered an old trunk among their possessions. It contained a treasure trove of Civil War letters and diaries that had belonged to Andrew H. Gale, a Union soldier from Groton, New York. He and his uncle, Ezra Bostwick, were members of Company K of the 137th Regiment, New York State Volunteers.
