(1898), 2004, CD, Graphic Images, Adobe Acrobat, PC and MAC, 426 pp, Heritage Books
The earliest records of this parish known to be in existence. The minutes of all vestry meetings from October 30, 1720 to April 18, 1789 are complete except for the period between October 28, 1722 and November 11, 1723 (two leaves of the original 11x15 manuscript were missing). The minutes contain details of the business of the parish, including lists of members present and accounts of money taken in and spent, and plans for the erection of chapels, etc. The earliest date in the register of births, baptisms and deaths is April 12, 1685 and the latest is March 9, 1798. 2 CD: A History of Bristol Parish, Virginia with Genealogies of Families Connected Therewith, and Historical Illustrations
Rev. Philip Slaughter
(1879), 2004, CD, Graphic Images, Adobe Acrobat, PC and Mac, 276 pp, Heritage Books
Bristol Parish was created in 1642; it encompassed a large area on either side of the Appomatock River from its mouth up to the falls, and was subsequently subdivided to create several modern parishes. Little is known of the early history of the parish because the earlier extant parish register does not begin until 1720 when the General Assembly passed an act authorizing the construction of a parish church. In 1723 when the church was built there were about 400 families living in the parish. The original and a new fullname index are included, as well as historical illustrations
