The May-Flower & Her Log: July 15, 1620-May 6, 1621, Azel Ames, M.D

1 The May-Flower & Her Log: July 15, 1620-May 6, 1621
Azel Ames, M.D
(1901, 1907, 1998), 2009, 8½x11, paper, index, 230 pp, Heritage Books, Inc
This work was originally published in 1901; because demand is high for this rare volume, Mr. Linscott has re-formatted it for Mayflower researchers and enthusiasts. The format has been updated, but Azel Ames' work has been duplicated exactly. The only new additions are the preface and the index. These pages contain a fascinating look at the ship and her passengers. Chapters discuss the May-Flower's consort (the Speedwell), the May-Flower's charter and information about the ship itself. The book also provides insight into the officers and crew, as well as the passengers, quarters, food and cooking. The last chapter supplies the reader with a look at the log of the May-Flower. Original maps and illustrations highlight the text. The appendix includes the agreement of the merchant adventurers and planters, many letters written by Robert Cushman and the May-Flower compact. A bibliography and a new full-name index are included.

The Winthrop Fleet of 1630: An Account of the Vessels, the Voyage, the Passengers and their English Homes from Original Authorities, Charles Edward Banks

2 The Winthrop Fleet of 1630: An Account of the Vessels, the Voyage, the Passengers and their English Homes from Original Authorities
Charles Edward Banks
(1930), 2002, 5½x8½, paper, index, 134 pp, Heritage Books
Genealogical research and history combine in these pages to provide valuable insight into the voyage of the Winthrop Fleet and other related ships in 1630. Early attempts at settlement in the new colonies and religious, social, and economic influences in England provide a wealth of background for the “Great Emigration” of men with the “courage to break away from the land of their fathers” and “cross an uncharted ocean.” The Reverend John White with the help of Colonel John Humphrey and Thomas Dudley formed the Massachusetts Bay Company that drew into its circle, John Winthrop, who became Governor of the fleet. The Winthrop Fleet “carried the largest number of Englishmen sailing as passengers in one body across the Atlantic up to that event.” The departure of these eleven ships is credited with establishing the enterprise of passenger travel in England. Mr. Banks allows the reader a glimpse into the voyage and the lives of the passengers and provides passenger lists, including names, family information, places of origin and settlement, occupations, birth and death dates and bibliographic resources. Alphabetized lists and full name, place and subject indices provide easy access to information for the researcher.
