1 Cemetery and Related Records, Smartsville Cemeteries, Yuba County, California, 1852-2001
Renie Riccobuano
2006, 5x8, paper, index, 284 pp, Heritage Books, Inc
The Gold Mining area of Yuba County was settled around 1848. Many of the miners came from Europe. Information included in this book often shows what country these individuals came from, including their birth and death dates and, in most cases, the place they were born. Smartsville cemeteries, including Pioneer (a.k.a. Davies), Timbuctoo, Masonic, and Catholic cemeteries are filled with individuals that were pioneers to this area during the old "Gold Rush Days." The oldest grave in these cemeteries contains a man from Oregon buried in 1852. The author has gleaned all available information from county, state, and local records. In doing research in this fashion, she has uncovered over 200 individuals that are buried in these cemeteries without the benefit of headstones. This book conveniently combines cemetery, birth, marriage, and death records, as well as information from relevant newspaper articles. In addition, the "Combined Information Analyses" section shows family connections with condensed information and is a quick reference to every deceased individual in the book.
