Volume 11 in the Chronicles of Canada series, this book is essentially a biography of James Wolfe, the great general who led the British to victory at Fortress Louisbourg in Nova Scotia and Quebec, but succumbed to wounds received in the same battle that killed his noted adversary, Montcalm, on the Plains of Abraham. Beginning with Wolfe’s family history, this work follows the sickly boy’s growth and development into a dedicated soldier, influenced by his father and other military leaders, and shaped by experience. This work contains famous portraits of Wolfe, Pitt and Amherst, the great British commanders of the French and Indian War. It also features maps of the sieges of Louisbourg and Quebec, a view of Louisbourg in 1758, and an engraving after the famous painting of “The Death of Wolfe.”
