1 The Mystery of the Muller Mansion
Robert J. Hubbard
Reg. Price: $10
(1893), 2007, 5˝x8˝, paper, 26 pp, Heritage Books, Inc
The Muller Mansion is situated in the southern part of Madison County, New York. It was “built in 1808 by a French refugee, of supposed noble blood, who lived there some six years, under the assumed name of Louis Anathe Muller.” This French nobleman was forced to flee from the vengeance of Napoleon Bonaparte. Was this mysterious refugee the Duke of Orleans, Louis Philippe? Was he the Duke of Berri? Both possibilities are discussed. Some believe that the mansion is haunted and that untold riches are buried in the cellar. A brief examination of pertinent French history is followed by an account of Mr. Muller in America and a detailed description of his mansion and grounds. This intriguing slice of history closes with a description of the property in 1891.
