Cemetery Inscriptions of the Town of Barnstable, Massachusetts, and its Villages, 1600-1900, with Corrections and Additions Paul J. Bunnell Reg. Price: $36 (1995), 2008, 5½x8½, paper, alphabetical, 456 pp, Heritage Books, Inc This revised collection of thirty-three cemeteries is an alphabetical arrangement of inscriptions found on tombstones and in records. These cemeteries are found in Barnstable, West Barnstable, Cotuit, Marstons Mills, Centerville, Hyannis, Hyannisport, Cummaquid and Oesterville, Massachusetts. The inscriptions include the name of the deceased and, when available, the year of death and/or birth and the names of spouses and children. Additional commentary identifies such items as: who the deceased is buried next to or the family plot in which he or she was buried; the condition of the tombstone as a result of weather, time or vandalism; and stones that were difficult to read. Supplementary information provided by the compiler includes: military involvement of the deceased, epitaphs, status (widow, infant, doctor, etc.), religious affiliation, and age at death. A key is provided to help identify each person with the cemetery in which he or she was buried. Several photographs of some of the more unique stones are included. This revised edition provides information on ten more cemeteries than the original, including many records that were discovered in the cellar vault of the Sturgis Library and material available at the time of the original publication but inadvertently omitted. French and Native North American Marriages, 1600-1800 Paul J. Bunnell, FACG, UE Reg. Price: $25 (2004), 2007, 5½x8½, paper, 186 pp, Heritage Books After finding his four Huron lines who came from Ontario, Canada, and who took refuge in Quebec with the help of the Jesuit priests around 1640, genealogist Paul J. Bunnell, renowned for his books on Loyalist ancestors, felt compelled to make this primary and secondary source information available to help others find their Native American connections. Persecuted by the Iroquois for trading with the French, the Huron, who had numbered around 20,000 were reduced to 2,000 by the year 1640, nearly wiping them out. Many of these Native Americans (First Nation) along with other tribes and clans of the Iroquois Nation, including all the Acadian coastal tribes, married into French families who settled areas of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island (St. Jean), Newfoundland, Maine, and other upper colony states, including some territories farther west. This book covers mostly the Eastern Canada and Upper New England areas, but does pick up some Miami/Detroit and a few other tribes west of the above-mentioned areas. Although this is not a perfect and complete collection, there are many families listed here that have thousands of descendants today. This book is in an easy-to-use alphabetical format with all the main surnames shown in bold print. B2595 Price:
